Organization:  West Texas Opportunities, Inc. – CHIP

Purpose: To ease the limitations of poverty by investing in families to improve their quality of life.   WTO-CHIP provides applications and brochures to community partners and families for the Children’s Health Insurance Program and assists clients with the application process and renewals

Organization:  2-1-1 Texas Permian Basin

Purpose: 2-1-1 Texas is the number to call when you don't know who to call!  2-1-1 is the new abbreviated dialing code for FREE information and referrals about federal, state, and local government agencies, community based organizations and qualified private businesses.  2-1-1 Texas is available 24/7 all year around, and is able to answer inquiries in multiple languages as well as TDD/TYY calls.

Organization: The Crisis Center

Purpose: Assisting those in Crisis through education, intervention, advocacy, and shelter. Our Shelter (Angel House) is located in Odessa, TX and we serve Ector, Andrews, Crane, Gaines, Reeves, Ward, and Winkler counties. The Crisis Center also has a 24 hour Crisis Response Team.

Organization:  Midland Teen Court, Inc.


Purpose: An alternative system of juvenile justice using youth participation & an educational opportunity.  Midland Teen Court offers young offenders an opportunity to accept responsibility for and make restitution for offenses. Successful completion of all requirements allows youth to have that citation dismissed with prejudice, saving the cost of a fine and clearing the record. The “hands on” educational opportunity allows youth (offenders and volunteers) to experience and better understand the judicial system through participation as a defendant (for those with a citation), teen jurors, or teen attorneys.

Organization:  Midland Need to Read

Purpose: Midland Need to Read improves and enhances productivity and independence in Midland County adults through literacy. Midland Need to Read provides at no cost books, materials, and trained volunteers to tutor adults who want to improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills at no cost.  Adult learners set their goals that can be achieved through improved literacy  and are matched one-to-one with a trained volunteer tutor.

Purpose: To provide comprehensive services to families of poverty through a center-based preschool setting targeting four-year-old children living in poverty.

Additional Information: Families must apply for program services and are admitted based on their income being at or below the federal poverty level. Children must be four years of age on or before September 1st of any given school year to be eligible for consideration. Once admitted to the program, children and families are eligible for a variety of services including quality and appropriate instructional services for the child, educational and medical screenings, services for children with disabilities, mental health/counseling services, social services, as well as parent involvement activities and trainings. Families are assigned to one of the two centers in the Midland Independent School District depending on the neighborhood in which they reside. Services are available to Spanish speaking children and their families.

 

Organization:  WIA Youth Program

Purpose:  The major purpose of the program is to give the youth actual work experience and training.  The youth benefit by having opportunity to explore possible career fields, learn valuable skills and work ethics as well as earn money.
